Proverbs 24:1-22
Reflect
“If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small.” Prov 24:10 (NLT)
“If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn’t much to you in the first place.” Prov 24:10 (MSG)
How’s your strength doing these days? If I were to ask this of my younger sons, they would likely challenge me to an arm wrestle to see if they have grown in physical strength. (I’m still taller and stronger than two of my sons, but not for long!) But I think the writer of this proverb is getting at something beyond physical power here.
Let me ask you, how’s your strength in living out your values and faith? How we respond in a crisis reveals the strength of our beliefs and practices which are built on the foundation of our daily choices. Our character is built on tiny decisions we make over the years. Is there anything that comes to mind that, starting today you want to make a different decision for your future?
Apply
As we walk in obedience, we build strength and confidence in Christ. We can catch a glimpse of our measure of strength by how we respond to a few bumps in the road of life. Can a small thing throw you off course? Is there a practical way the Holy Spirit is inviting you to be strengthened in Him and in His power? (Eph 6:10)
