Proverbs 18:13-24

Reflect

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (v21)
I don’t know about you, but I’m already tired of the political ads, and jabs politicians and party people are making towards one another. It feels like they are choosing their words to cause the biggest impact, which seems to mainly be negative.

Our passage today is a great reminder for us today. Our tongue, our words, have the power of life or death. Our words will either lift up or harm those we speak to or about.

James 1:19 reminds us that we should be quick to listen and slow to speak. I know that I sometimes get those mixed up and I become quick to speak and slow to listen and when I do, I often end up wishing I would have not said some things (v13).

My challenge to us today is to be mindful of our words. Let’s practice what James advises and be quick to listen and slow to speak. Let’s practice loving our neighbour by truly listening to them and hearing their story, and then after truly listening, share some kind words to encourage them.

Pray for Becki Lee – Athletes in Action

As I launch into my eighteenth September with Athletes in Action (AIA), I continue to anticipate the Lord doing amazing things in and through the lives of university athletes. The mission of AIA is to “help people know Jesus and experience his power to change the world through sport.” This past year was another positive year of ministry with AIA at the University of Guelph (U of G). I continue to work toward the completion of a Masters in Evangelism and leadership through Wheaton College. It has been a challenging and faith-stretching endeavor. Please pray for clarity, wisdom, and focus as we seek the Lord for planning and direction for the year as leaders.
